Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks Dan Cloutier Becomes Goaltending Coach, NHL Odds n Ends The first player personnel moves of the summer are beginning as the buyout window opens and the draft draws near, and the Canucks retain Rollie Melanson as an east coast-based goaltending consultant while promoting Dan Cloutier to their NHL goaltending coach.

Based on discussion from last blog:

I think it's pretty easy to say the consensus is we all want to see good hockey this year. We know we are not winning a cup, therefore, who cares where we land in the standings as long as the games are entertaining and the kids get room to grow? We are allowed to hope that the canucks make the playoffs and we shouldn't have to take abuse by other canuck fans for being hopeful just because they see the glass half empty.

Most of the people around here are too young to remember how Cloutier single-handedly threw away the best chance the Canucks ever had at winning the Cup. Single-handedly...

Might've been a strong word, let me back up. All I mean is you shouldn't completely dismiss people based on the fact that they want to see things in a more positive light and to make assumptions about the team being a complete failure this far out when we don't even know what our roster looks like is kind of a conversation killer.

Personally, I laugh at the emo, sky-is-falling-crowd. I hope they team continues to develope and the kids improve and gain experience but feel that the playoffs are a pipe (bong) dream.

The problem wasn't so much Cloutier, but Burke refusing to get a legitimate back up goalie to support Cloutier, unless you can't Brochu, Skudra, Michauld, Auld, etc... When they did get a legitimate back up goalie, Anders Hedberg, Crawford would blast the back up if he had a bad game. I admit however, that center line goal still haunts me.

I think the Bickell, Teravainen deal is a win for Chi personally.

Yes Teravainen might turn out to be a top 6 player but they got pretty good value for a guy who still has a lot of question marks.

If most people agree Baertschi for a 2nd was good value, doesn't moving Teravainen for a 2nd, 3rd and 4 million in cap space make it look like coup for the Hawks?

Teravainen is a better prospect than Baertschi was at 21 but I'm not sure their upside is much different.

TT and SB will probably be very similar players. I think TT will have slightly better point production, but SB will have a better 2 way game.
